3 Hour Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra Mini Retreat

Resting is a revolutionary practice. Ask yourself when have you last given yourself the time to take three hours out of your day to constructively rest?

In this mini retreat, you will be given space and time to do just that. We’ll begin with gentle, floor-based, intuitive and breath-guided movement to arrive in our bodies. We then move through a series of restorative yoga postures using props to meet each body where it is to truly unwind from the inside out. Our body has its own intelligence. If we give it the opportunity and some time, it knows just how to make the best use of this situation. There will be an informal water in and water out break at half time. Afterwards, we will continue with restorative yoga, adding in a yoga nidra (a guided meditative relaxation connecting you to our intuition). There will be gentle, guitar-accompanied song at the end of the yoga nidra and the end of the final restorative pose. We will use the last ten minutes of the retreat to come back to our senses and back into reality through breath, sound and movement, so no one runs into a lamppost when leaving the studio!

There are a few factors that influence the depth of a relaxation practice:

Do you feel safe? The sanctuary of the yoga studio at Yoga Place and Maren’s calm and warm presence as an experienced spaceholder will create the setting for you to trust and surrender into your experience. Our subconscious knows it is safe to relax when others around us are relaxing. Restorative yoga can be very rich when practised in a group.

Are you comfortable and warm enough? Plenty of props from bolsters, cushions and blankets to eye pillows and belts are available for everyone. If you would like to make sure to be extra comfortable and warm, it is recommended to bring an extra blanket, a towel and a light shawl. While resting, the body temperature drops. Therefore, wear enough layers and bring warm socks.

The overall intention of this mini retreat is comfort, joy and nurture. You work hard every day in one way or another. Give yourself a break.

Birth Preparation: Yoga for Labour

Every woman is different, every pregnancy is different and no birth is the same. So how to prepare for labour, birth and beyond?

In this workshop, we will playfully and mindfully explore options to meet labour and birth in an empowered and individual way. The workshop caters to the needs of both the mother-to-be and the (birth) partner.

We will talk about stages of labour and birth and what possibilities there are to meet them with breath and sound, resting positions and movement, visualisations and affirmations, relaxation and meditation – and why and when these can be useful. By changing roles, partners will get the chance to feel into what it is like to give as well as receive support. In short: we’ll have some fun together. As an induced labour is a possibility, we will also touch upon the different dynamics of a natural birth vs an induced birth and how to be present with the different challenges they hold.

Any questions around birth are welcome because they enrich the fabric of the workshop and make it specifically relevant to those attending.

My intention as the space holder is to empower and support you in the choices you make regarding the birth of your baby. I share information but refrain from giving advice as I am aware that it is not my place to tell you what is best for you. I am looking forward to working with you!

Together, we are strong, we heal, we laugh and see ourselves in each other – we belong. Women of all ages - including pregnant, postnatal, menstruating, pre-/post- and menopausal women – are welcome. No yoga experience required. Bring your girlfriend(s), sister(s), mother and grandmother(s)! Please wear comfortable clothing and bring extra layers to stay warm during rest.

A Pelvic Floor Master Class

A Pelvic Floor Master Class

The pelvic floor is an elemental support structure in our bodies both physiologically and energetically. We can’t see it and it is kind of taboo to talk about it, so it’s very common not to have a relationship with this part of our anatomy. In this workshop, we will explore the pelvic floor through yogic practices from yoga nidra to physical exercises and breath work. With her in-depth experience in teaching pregnancy and postnatal yoga, Maren will take a light-hearted approach to the topic and leave you feeling recharged, empowered, connected with yourself and the group. This workshop is valuable for women of any age.

If you have any questions about the workshop or are not sure whether this is for you, please get in touch with me on info@marenweege.com

Please book your space directly with Yoga on the Lane using this link.

A Pelvic Floor Masterclass – a Workshop for Women

A Pelvic Floor Masterclass – a Workshop for Women

The pelvic floor is both physiologically and energetically an elemental support structure in our bodies. We can’t see it, it is unusual to talk about its importance or even its existence. Therefore, it is very common that we don’t have a relationship with this vital part of our anatomy. In this workshop, we will explore the pelvic floor through yogic practices from yoga nidra to physical exercises and breathwork. With the help of an anatomical model of the female pelvis, drawings and other entertaining teaching tools, we will learn where everything is and how bones, muscles, tissue and organs interact. Due to Maren’s in depth experience in teaching pregnancy and postnatal yoga, you can expect a light-hearted approach to the topic while leaving feeling recharged, empowered, connected with yourself and the group. This workshop is valuable for women of any age.

Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and Maren Weege in Portugal

Arrivals Friday 18 May to begin with a session in the evening, departures after brunch on Friday 25 May

With contributions from midwife and a detailed training manual this course provides both the theoretical and practical training necessary to teach yoga classes specifically for pregnant women. Sessions will include mantra, mudra, nada yoga and pranavidya practices, encouraging you to think for yourself and to develop your own style and method of teaching pregnancy yoga within a clear framework of safety guidelines. This course also includes some time on the early stage of postnatal recovery.

The emphasis of the course is on supporting healthy pregnancy through appropriate holistic yoga practices. There will be opportunities for teaching practice, as well as informal assessments during the course and you should be prepared for both a short pre-course assignment and written work during the course.

Uniquely, each day of this training course begins with specially designed yoga nidra practices designed for pregnancy, and exquisitely beautiful meditations, sound practices and breath work that gives all students on the course a direct experience of the subtle power of yoga to support the transition to motherhood. There are also deep relaxation and sound practices in the afternoons, and a lot of direct and practical encounters with restorative yoga. The emphasis on practice experience and subtle yoga practice makes the learning process effortless and enjoyable.

The course has always included sessions on dealing with particular maternal adaptations to pregnancy which often cause difficulty, for example, pelvic girdle pain (PGP), pregnancy anaemia, high and low blood pressure, dizziness, heartburn, exhaustion, oedema, insomnia, haemorrhoids, lax ligaments, vulval varicosities and digestive disturbances. Strategies for dealing with these conditions include techniques for prevention, management, relief and on going self-care in one-to-one and group settings, as well as teaching a range of modifications for therapeutically appropriate yoga responses to these issues in general classes and in pregnancy yoga classes. Additionally, an entire afternoon is included on listening skills and basic ways to respond appropriately with yoga therapeutic techniques in relation to anxiety, grief, pregnancy loss, still birth and miscarriage.

In addition to specific skills for dealing with pregnancy related ailments, students also gain valuable transferable skills and experience in therapeutic and restorative yoga propping and yoga nidra, which is practised twice daily on this course.

This course is run by Womb Yoga

The cost for this training is €1160.00 EURO, £1,027.39
this includes all tuition and manual (€775 of the cost). It also includes all meals and accommodation in a shared tipi whilst you are there (€385 of the cost).

If you have a beloved partner who wants to join you in Portugal as a retreat option (not joining the training and attending the drop-in open sessions only, usually one-two a day), the cost for them would be €598.00 EURO

Bringing Children: You are welcome to bring your children to enjoy this beautiful setting in Portgual with you. Babies under one are invited free of charge. For children and babies aged between one and five, we ask for a €40 EURO contribution. For children aged 5 -14years we ask you to pay half the full accommodation and food costs (which would be €192.50). If we end up having lots of children with us, we may organise to have a child-minder, the costs of this can then be shared between the parents.

To book for this training please contact Sivani Mata on sivani@wombyoga.org

3hr Restorative Yoga Workshop with Yoga Nidra: a Mini Retreat

3hr Restorative Yoga Workshop with Yoga Nidra: a Mini Retreat

Restorative Yoga is a practice that takes time. There is no rush to get into poses or out of poses. The body, mind and nervous system take a while to unwind and hand themselves over into the trusted hands of gravity, which means it is useful to remain in a restorative pose for a little while once you have found comfort, warmth, quiet (for all senses) which leads to stillness of the body - not because you aren't allowed or supposed to move but because no part of you feels any urge to move. We will begin with a lying down breathing relaxation, followed by gentle and simple floor based movement and a meditation to arrive in the room and relocate from your head into your body. To open up the opportunity to dive into your intuitive wisdom, I will offer a yoga nidra at some point through the practice. For the opportunity to let your heart be touched, me and my guitar will offer gentle song once or twice. Other than that, there is a whole lot of constructive and delicious lying around going on. By the end of the workshop, you will feel nourished, nurtured and relaxed.

I am looking forward to holding this space for you to rest(ore).

Birth Preparation - Yoga for Labour

Are you having a baby? If so, this 2.5hr fun and informative workshop is for you.

This is a one off workshop for mum-to-be and her birth partner, or solo if you wish, where the Yoga taught in class is put into a ‘Birth Story’ context, which basically means, we show you how to move your body creating the space and softness within you, to birth your baby with ease.

You will be guided as an individual and as a couple (partner support in postures during labour can be so helpful and bonding) through each stage of labour, also using breath, sound and visualisation for those contractions and breaths to rest and to give you a boost of energy when it’s needed. Simple pain relief and massage techniques will be shared as well as a breath for second stage and some great birthing positions to allow for a more open and comfortable labour.

We make time for relaxation allowing for you to let go of any apprehensions as well sharing the class and your experiences with other new parents to be. It is also a gorgeously nurturing practice that allows you to stop, and take time for you and your baby… giving you the space to connect with this incredible little person that grows within you.

Refreshments will be provided through out and cake & tea will be served at the end of the workshop for any questions.

This is a fun (but also highly informative) workshop where a role is created for the birthing partner, so please come comfortably dressed and be prepared to get on the floor and join in with the funny walks!!!

Experience: It is beneficial if the pregnant student has had some pregnancy yoga experience, but not essential. Ideal for couples but students coming on their own are more than welcome. This session is suitable from 32 weeks or can be taken earlier if this suits your schedule better.

Go with your Flow: Get in Tune with the Cycles of Life

Go with your Flow: Get in Tune with the Cycles of Life

Women’s bodies are designed around cycles: both the menstrual cycle as well as stages or cycles of life from menarche through childbearing age through menopause to post menopause. In this workshop, we are going to explore yoga practices, ideas and exercises that help us look and feel into how we can respect ourselves as cyclical beings in this linear world. We will tune into being in the flow of life in a female body - in our beautifully individual ways – as a doorway to better health and a lifted sense of self-worth. The intention of this workshop is to shed some light on a positive narrative for the female body experience and address options to overcome the underlying physiological and psychological stress which stems from getting on with life ignoring our natural rhythms. This workshop is of value for women of any age with or without  a monthly cycle. No previous yoga experience required. Bring your sister, your friend, your mother. I am looking forward to welcoming you and sharing with you.
